Our Story

Helix Computer Systems, Inc. was founded in 1998 in Charlottesville, Virginia and has operated as a profitable entity since its inception. As one of the oldest and most established IT providers in Central Virginia, HCS maintains a diverse and robust and loyal client base. Helix serves the business community primarily in Central Virginia, but maintains clients, throughout the country and abroad.

Over the years, we have found the experience of serving clients in various markets to be a plus, as it broadens our exposure and horizons of the IT needs for a wide variety of businesses and allows us greater insight and creativity in servicing customers. We have served hundreds of clients, ranging in size from sole proprietorship to entities with thousands of employees. In the public sector, we have worked with Universities, Hospitals, Cities and Counties. Our practice includes dozens of non-profits dedicated to serving our community. In the private sector we have had the privilege of supporting a wide range of businesses including management firms, developers, construction, legal accounting and medical practices.

Though we originally started as a network systems integrator and development company, in 2001 we began offering dial up, ISDN and fractionalized T1 services in partnership with Telcove, which is now part of Level(3). Since that time, our ISP and telephony operations have grown significantly. We now operate a data center with redundant fiber connections from Level(3) and Century Link Networks utilizing 5 Class C networks owned and maintained in our own BGP space. As we operate with Tier 1 providers we are one hop from the internet backbone. Our data center also operates an MPLS network, converged and Flex T1 from multiple providers, SIP peering and TDM termination to PRI. Starting in 2002 we began working with Asterisk & VOIP based phone systems. We have five engineers that have extensive experience with designing, deploying and maintaining and deploying data and voice services. In 2010 we purchased a CLEC operation that maintained an SHDSL network in Charlottesville.

Over the last 14 years we have expanded our NOC operations and added help desk services to provide managed services offerings to our clients. We offer monitoring, alerting and management of most devices, backed by SLA agreements.

We have invested significant capital operational and personnel investment into the integration of industry leading tools including Autotask and N-Able to more effectively and efficiently manage, report and share results with our customers.
